Automatic deep understanding of language is required for truly intelligent machines. My work on projects such as Tractor has focused on knowledge-based methods for understanding. Reasoning is important if we are to have thinking computers. I am interested in logical reasoning such as natural deduction and subsumption, both implemented as part of Inference Graphs.
